Two Tips for Those Who Plan to Remove Trees When They Landscape Their Gardens

If your next bout of landscaping you plan to do your garden will include having some trees removed from it, these pointers might prove useful.

Have the tree removal work done before you do any other landscaping tasks

It's best to have the tree removal work done before you do other landscaping tasks. There are several reasons why this should be your top priority. Firstly, the removal of large trees is messy work and typically results in dozens of leaves and twigs being flung onto the surrounding area. Additionally, even when the arborist fells the tree in a controlled manner, the removal of a big tree trunk will result in that trunk squashing the soil that it falls on.

As such, if you were to wait until you had done other landscaping tasks before you got the trees removed, you might have to re-do some of this landscaping work. For instance, if the tree trunk lands on your newly manicured lawn, it might crush the area that it lands on and leave the blades of grass in this spot badly damaged. Likewise, if some of the tree's twigs land in your new flowerbeds, they might break the flowers' delicate petals.

Secondly, if you have the trees removed first, you might also be able to use what is left of them for the other landscaping work that you want to do. For example, if you want to make a garden path, you could have the stump the arborist extracts sliced up and use these slices as pavers. Likewise, you could peel off the tree bark and use it cover any new planters you add to the garden; this will give them a lovely, rustic finish.

Decide in advance what to do with the empty space that you'll be left with after the tree removal

The removal of your trees will leave behind several empty patches in your garden. It's important to decide what you'll do with these so that the rest of your landscaping work is not spoilt by the presence of these bare sections of soil. If the trees were on the lawn, you could simply add fresh turf to these empty patches. Alternatively, you could put circular raised flowerbeds in these areas (beds with this shape would be best, as the empty space left behind by the trees will be circular), or pave these areas to create a patio area.

Deciding what you'll do before the trees are removed will mean you can get the materials you'll need to dress up the empty patches as soon as the arborist is done.
